Hi! I'm an experienced maths tutor based in South London. I’ve taught at the University of Warwick (one of the top 4 maths departments in the UK), where I also obtained my Master’s. For the past 5 years I have also tutored students for 11+, GCSE, and A-Level exams. I’m passionate about maths and believe it can be enjoyable for everyone, regardless of one’s prior ability.
In terms of my academic background, I have a First Class Master's of Mathematics from the University of Warwick. I won the Applied Maths Dissertation Prize, having received the highest Master’s dissertation mark in my cohort (92%). I attended Sutton Grammar School, where I was awarded the Academic Excellence Prize. There I achieved 4A*s at A-Level in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Philosophy.
I’m happy to tutor online or travel to students in London, depending on travel times and public transport connections.
I have taught at the University of Warwick, running classes for undergraduates to support their lectures. This involved explaining some of the ideas in greater detail, as well as walking them through problems at the chalkboard. I marked all of their assignments, provided feedback in class, and prepared them for their end of year exams.
I have 5 years of experience teaching 11+, GCSE, and A-Level students (including A-Level Further Maths). I'm very familiar with the syllabi, having taught them for multiple years and studied for the exams myself. I have prepared lessons on virtually every topic covered in school from year 4 onwards, and, most importantly, know for which topics and questions students require the most support.
I have a friendly, patient approach. I find the best way to understand a topic is to start with motivating examples to build intuition and then abstract away to rules and formulae. Once the student is comfortable with the concepts at hand, I’ll see how they do on practice questions. I make it clear at this point that mistakes are a necessary part of making progress: I want them to feel free to explain their thought process, rather than afraid to say something wrong. At the end of the lesson, I am happy to provide homework sheets and have them marked for the next session.
Of course, preparing for exams is a separate skill from just understanding the maths; I have extensive experience in both applying that skill and nurturing it in others. If desired, I can dedicate classes to working through past paper questions and analysing how best to approach them. I provide plenty of practice questions and feedback throughout this process.
I think personalising lessons for students is incredibly important, and I do keep their own goals, strengths, and weak points in mind. I offer a taster session at half-price so that you can assess whether I’m the right tutor for your child.
