I'm a qualified primary school teacher with over 10 years classroom experience and excited to share my passion for education with others.
Growing up, I always enjoyed my education, particularly maths and science - I love working to solve a problem and the reward and the sense of satisfaction it brings! At a young age, I also found a huge love for reading and was always found buried in a book, something which I still love to escape and do now. During my teenage years, my family moved abroad and I spent 3 years in Kentucky, USA in the American education system, before returning to the UK for university.
I studied a Masters Degree in Biology with Conservation and Biodiversity at The University of Sheffield, where I also spent time volunteering with environmental education organisations and working as a scientific research assistant. I then went on to complete my PGCE in Primary Education at Manchester Metropolitan University, graduating with distinction in 2011.
I live with my husband, two children and friendly cat, Ruth, on the edge of the Peak District in Sheffield. I love getting outdoors in nature - exploring, walking and camping, reading and enjoying time with friends and family.
I founded NB Education in summer 2021 and tutor both online and face-to-face from my home, in Sheffield (S17) as well as working as a Primary Science Content Writer for a renowned educational resource company.
I have over 10 years' experience teaching at two different primary schools in Sheffield, across a range of year groups in Key Stage 2. I spent four of these years working in year 6, preparing children for SATs examinations and also led the development of science across the school, as science subject leader. I have been a tutor for 3 years, supporting children ages 5-11 with phonics, reading, spelling, grammar, writing and maths.
I am experienced in working with children for whom English is an Additional Language, children with additional needs, children who need extra challenge and children with low confidence and/or anxiety.
I believe that education is empowering, learning should be fun for all and every child deserves the chance to be successful. I love the moment you see something 'click' for a child and the joy and pride that brings them. From my experience in the classroom, I understand the importance of relationships and getting to know students to build trust and establish the right conditions for meaningful learning.
Whether working online or in person, I provide a patient, encouraging and supportive learning environment that will allow your child to grow in confidence, make progress and enjoy many more of those 'click' moments. I know that every child is unique and learns differently and will tailor lessons to meet their needs and work at a pace that is right for them.
