I have been educated to a Ph. D level in synthetic organic chemistry and have done a post doctoral fellowship in Organic Synthesis at the University of Nottingham in the UK. I have published 7 international papers in chemistry in peer review journals. I have also majored in mathematics and physics at University and enjoy an A-grade in University Mathematics during my first and second year. I have worked in the chemical industry for many companies over 15 years and my industrial experience in chemistry bridges the disciplines of prostaglandin synthesis, polypeptide and protein synthesis, stereoselective synthesis, instrumental chemical analysis including UV, IR, MS, GC, NMR, and HPLC spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques. I enjoy to share and equip my students with the practical aspects of chemistry and physics as the insight gained in these topics can only come from industrial experience. It has to be remembered that science in essence is a practical subject and academic performance in science is directly proportional to insight into scientific principles.
I started teaching chemistry and mathematics for over 8 years while completing my M.Sc. and PhD degrees at the prestigious University of Stellenbosh in South Africa. My teaching experience in the United Kingdom spans the disciplines of Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics from Key Stage 2 through A levels across all relevant UK examination boards (Edexcel, Edexcel IGCSE, AQA, Eduqas, OCR-A, OCR-Gateway, Cambridge IGCSE). I have overall 13 years of experience in teaching general science, mathematics (KS2-KS4), and chemistry at A level. I also have 11 years experience in teaching both Biology and Mathematics at A level. Furhermore, I teach mathematics for years 7+, 11+ and 13+ private school entrance examinations with great success I enjoy mathematics, with a substantial portion of my time spent looking at, and solving complex mathematical problems. My experience as both a practical and theoretical chemist greatly aids in bringing my scientific teaching to life. A solid understanding of mathematics also accelerates insight into explaining scientific concepts more clearly. I also enjoy reading on the forefront of chemical innovation and research.
Even though no tutor can guarantee consistent grade 9 results in GCSE and A grades at A level. However, my students have consistently over the past 11 years showed great improvment by at least two grade levels or more. Over the past 3 years my focus has shifted to aid students attaining the neccessary grades for entry into demanding courses like medicine, dentistry, and veterinary science. None of my students over the past 10 years have ever been denied University clearance of their choice, which is gratifying. I have taught hundreds of students over the past 12 years with high efficiency and consistently high grades. The secret of my success is simply caring about the dreams and aspirations of my students by working ahead. At higher levels of education, I also increasingly teach question interpretation and examination technique.
I simply care about my students and care about their future aspirations in life. I try and immerse myself in the life and aspirations of my students and I try my best to feel how they feel about their studies. This better equips me to help them at their pace and obtain the best results they are capable of. For me the big reward in tuition is to see my students achieve good to excellent grades and become the best they can be. There is not much more in life more satisfactory. My lesson duration is normally 75 minutes for the stated fee of 1 hour.
