I'm Mel, a father of three children living in Manchester. I tutor for all levels of Biology, as well as GCSE Maths, English and Chemistry.

Tutoring Experience

> For the last nine years I've been tutoring in Biology for all exam boards at GCSE, A Level and IB. I’ve taught a number of students in the US, China, Russia, Canada and many countries in Europe. I like to keep a flexible teaching style to work out what is best for each student.

>> Depending on what you need help with, we'll work together in your first lesson to design a plan that will take you to where you need to be.

>> This might involve practising your maths skills, gaining confidence with concepts on the syllabus, or translating your knowledge more effectively into marks on your exam. Many students struggle with exam technique and it's definitely something a little tutoring can help with.

>> If you're happy to, I might ask you to do some practice for homework or to read up on some topics we'll cover before the lesson. I find this can also help students with time management and study skills. For those looking to go on to study at university, this can be particularly helpful.

>> I also offer advice and practice interviews for those looking to apply to university for biology and related STEM subjects. This includes personal statement tips, ideas for developing your extracurricular interests, and help presenting yourself at interview.

Tutoring Approach

>> I've developed plenty of resources through my experience as a tutor to help students learn the key concepts on the biology syllabus for GCSE and A Level, and to get better at using this to tackle the harder exam questions. We'll use a combination of slideshows, online whiteboard tasks, lots of discussion, and past paper practice to help you get the marks you need.
