Hey! I'm Mariam, and I am going to Medical school in September, having recently completed my A levels with outstanding results. I achieved 3A* , top 4% UCAT and 4x offers. I studied AQA Biology, AQA Chemistry and Edexcel Maths and am extremely familiar with the exam technique and question style.
Achieving full marks (25/25) in the AQA A-level Biology essay exemplifies my deep understanding and ability to apply knowledge, and having an in-depth understanding of the AQA specification, including exam technique and essay practice has given me the ability to guide students over the whole curriculum. In A-level Chemistry (AQA), I earned Gold in the RSC Chemistry Olympiad, reflecting problem-solving skills. In Mathematics, I have extensive knowledge of Pearson Edexcel GCSE, A-level, and Further Mathematics. Regarding teaching, I have a wealth of experience teaching Royal Institution Maths Masterclasses in an enjoyable and interactive manner, while having also tutors many students one-to-one in the past three years. As Wellbeing and PSHE ambassador, I led a range of peer mentoring sessions as well as group activities and delivering assemblies and workshops, honing my communicative and conversational skills, which is crucial when fostering learning.
My experiences and exemplary results have helped me develop a teaching style over the last few years where the student is at the crux of teaching- rather than lecturing, we work together using visual and verbal cues to increase long term memory retention. What is unique to my tutoring is that I am available always to message outside of schedules lessons with specific queries and questions, as this is where learning is solidified. I have been using a proven technique called scaffolded learning, where in each lesson we tackle a certain topic together in manageable and gradually increase the difficulty. Sometimes, we may begin the lesson reviewing homework and discussing what has gone well or not so well in class, which forms the basis for a personalised lesson. Moreover, I curate unique and personal quizzes as well as past paper practice so students become less anxious about exam technique. Altogether, a typical lesson varies depending on the students needs, but students can expect supportive, interactive and exam technique focused lessons.
