My name is Kayleigh Wong, and I am a 1st-year student at Imperial College London studying Biochemistry. I previously earned my IB diploma and IGCSE qualifications at Island School in Hong Kong. For my IB diploma, I studied Higher Level Biology, Chemistry and Maths AI. Furthermore, I wrote a Biology and Chemistry-focused Extended Essay on curcumin's anti-cancer effects and chemotherapeutic potential in treating colorectal cancer. I am a fluent, native English speaker, who can also speak Cantonese and Mandarin.
Throughout high school, I had numerous tutoring roles, supporting students from year 9 to sixth form in various subject areas and skills. From 2021 to 2022, I was a Biology and Chemistry tutor to younger students studying for their IGCSEs. From 2022 to 2023, I led the tutoring programme, supporting students through 1-on-1 sessions and managing tutor- tutee matches. I recently also supported sixth-form students with their UCAS and other university applications, specifically with writing personal statements.
My approach to teaching is casual but effective as I understand that it takes time to grasp difficult concepts in all subject areas. I found that using metaphors and various forms of visual communication helps students understand concepts. I often allow the students to apply their understanding by attempting past paper questions with and without my support. I like to help my students with their approach to these questions by working on a detailed guide on how to interpret and answer them as communication of knowledge is also an important skill.
