Joanne

I am a conscientious and ambitious individual with the desire to succeed. In a few words I would describe myself as bright, determined and hard working. I enjoy taking on new projects and challenges with a positive attitude and am continually stretching my capabilities wherever possible to further my overall development. Outside of work my hobbies include reading, socialising, going to the theatre/cinema and generally enjoying life!
My adaptable and flexible approaches to teaching enable me to work with many different young people and create lessons that best suit their individual learning styles. This ensures that my lessons are fun and rewarding, with the aim to encourage the student to reach their maximum potential.

Tutoring Experience

Following a successful career at one of the UKs top four banks, I took a career change into teaching. Whilst studying at the University of Warwick I embarked on a number of school placements in both Primary and Secondary. My placements included teaching both English and Drama lessons over a period of a few months, creating schemes of work to embrace the requirements of the National Curriculum and to fully engage the pupils in the work required. The ages ranged from twelve to nineteen years. I received positive feedback and feel sure that I can help other children to succeed in their education, whether it is to build confidence in their exam potential or general literacy skills. I currently teach at a school in the area.

Tutoring Approach

I try to match my lesson plans to the individual learning styles of the student. This means that if for example they are struggling to read and understand Shakespeare, I will break down the plot of the play and talk about it in modern day terms with complete reference back to the text. This enables the pupil to appreciate that the play is a story of events and generally helps them form their own understanding of the language that Shakespeare uses. My personality enables me to communicate effectively with others to find out what their strengths and development areas are and I use this information when designing lesson plans to meet their individual needs in conjunction with the exam syllabus and/or the requirements of the subject area level (KS2/KS3/KS4).
