I am a fully qualified chemistry teacher with experience teaching in leading grammar and independent schools. I studied chemistry at the University of Birmingham and achieved a first-class master's degree with honours. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy reading, watching tennis, and going for walks. I have also recently joined a choir, despite not being able to sing!
I have almost four years experience teaching secondary chemistry from ages 11-18. At GCSE, I mainly taught AQA separate and trilogy, and also taught AQA for A-Level. However, I have experience of OCR A A-Level from a previous tutoring role, as well as BTEC Level 3 Applied Science. During teacher training, I taught the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, as well as IB Chemistry.
My teaching style is calm and patient. If a student doesn't know an answer, I use questions to help guide them to it rather than telling them straight away. This helps to build students' confidence, and often makes them realise that they know more than they think they do!
My lessons usually begin with a recall of prior knowledge. This could include content from recent lessons, topics that students haven't looked at for a while, or a mixture of both. Then, I will teach new content, using clear explanations and worked examples where appropriate. I always include opportunities for students to complete independent practice. For students with upcoming exams, lessons will include past paper questions and discussions about exam techniques.
Ultimately, though, I want to meet your needs and help you reach your potential. If you want to spend a whole lesson going through a past paper or need help with a homework task, I would be perfectly happy to do that.
