I’m a professional author and illustrator with a DPhil from the University of Oxford, where I am currently a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer. I offer creative writing tutoring to school children and teenagers, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and adults wanting to develop their fiction-writing skills. Whether you're preparing for exams, building confidence, or working on your own stories - I can help you!
Creative writing is a vital skill for learners of all ages - not only for those pursuing literature or the arts, but for anyone aiming to communicate clearly, think critically, and stand out in academic and professional contexts. At school level, strong creative writing abilities can significantly enhance performance in entrance exams for selective and independent schools, many of which include story composition or descriptive writing tasks. At university level, personal statements, scholarship applications, and interview processes increasingly value originality, clarity of thought, and the ability to express complex ideas - all skills honed through creative writing. Research also shows that students who practise creative writing tend to perform better in other subjects, thanks to improved vocabulary, organisation, and self-expression. Whether preparing for exams, building confidence, or developing persuasive writing skills, creative writing offers long-term academic and professional advantages across disciplines.
I specialise in narrative voice, character development, structure, and visual storytelling. I also support students working across genres, including fiction, memoir, fantasy, picture books, and experimental writing. Sessions are tailored to your goals and interests, from beginner to advanced levels.
I have extensive experience teaching, mentoring, and running writing workshops across a wide range of age groups and settings. I teach at the University of Oxford, Oxford Brookes University, and Universitas Airlangga in Indonesia.
My professional work spans published fiction, illustrated children’s books, and award-winning academic writing. I’ve supported both young and adult learners in developing their creative writing, from academic and portfolio projects to personal and professional work.
With a background that bridges literary craft, visual storytelling, and cultural studies, I bring a multidisciplinary perspective to writing that encourages experimentation, confidence, and originality.
I take a warm, student-centred approach focused on building confidence, skill, and personal expression. Each session is tailored to the learner’s age, goals, and interests – whether that's writing stories for fun, preparing for school or university assessments, or pursuing professional or personal creative projects.
My teaching blends encouragement with detailed, constructive feedback. I aim to help students develop their own voice and style, while also strengthening core writing skills like structure, pacing, tone, and editing.
With younger learners, I prioritise playful engagement and imagination-building. With older students and adults, I can provide mentoring, critique, and support with longer writing projects. All sessions are adaptive, engaging, and collaborative.
