Deborah

I am an experienced English teacher and have tutored primary school, secondary and adult learners.I have worked in Hertfordshire schools and colleges for the past 18 years. I have interests in a variety of areas. I love to visit art galleries and museums and love to watch thought provoking films. I am a creative person and feel that this helps me in my teaching when I am preparing lessons and worksheets. I have taught in a variety of subject areas and have experience of teaching mainly English with young people and adults. I was an Education Social Worker in Camden for 15 years, working with children at Primary and Secondary level prior to qualifying so I have valuable insight into the experience of children in education. I also have a professional coaching qualification which helps me to encourage tutees to meet personal goals and objectives.

Tutoring Experience

I am a qualified English lecturer and have been working in a colleges in Hertfordshire for the past 18 years. I now teach mainly GCSE and functional skills English. I have also taught Drawing Studies and the History of Art. I have also been teaching very recently on a Pre Access Literacy course for young people who are preparing to complete a pre- university course of study.I have tutored young children heading towards 11+ exams, adults attending university and children preparing for their GCSEs.

Tutoring Approach

I use all the experience I have of teaching and working with children and adults when I am tutoring. I see my learners as individuals and plan work with them accordingly so that they will find the work stimulating and view learning as enjoyable and rewarding. If I am working with adults I endeavour to make the work we complete together, relevant to their lives as adults. Similarly, if I am working with children I focus on preparing work that mirrors their interests and try to individualise teaching materials. It certainly has been rewarding for me to witness learners working their way up to GCSE level qualifications after beginning their sessions with me without any qualifications.
