I am a fully qualified English secondary school teacher with over a decade of classroom experience helping students thrive in English Language and Literature. I pride myself on being an outgoing teacher and tutor who is able to engage and support students with different needs. Whilst I understand the importance of academic achievement, I am also a strong believer in developing students' confidence and working together with them to ensure that they are happy and feel fully secure in approaching the subject of English.
Since qualifying, I have been teaching full-time in secondary schools for over nine years with a number of Teaching and Learning Responsibilities, including the whole school Literacy Co-ordinator and Deputy Head of English. Following my maternity leave, I returned to work part-time and have found such enjoyment in one-to-one tuition and my business has grown.
Throughout my career, I have taught a wide range of abilities so have a solid understanding of how to make English accessible for all. I have taught both boys and girls and thoroughly enjoy teaching; I am a firm believer that tuition should be enjoyable, as well as academically beneficial.
Due to my extensive experience teaching GCSE students for a number of years, I have solid knowledge of various exam boards, particularly AQA, Edexcel and Cambridge iGCSE and what they require.
At present and due to high demands, I am only offering online tuition so I use GoogleMeet and GoogleDrive to ensure that every single one of my students has live and constant feedback. Each student has a personalised folder which includes resources tailored towards their learning and needs, which they can access in sessions and outside of sessions to support their independent learning.
In terms of my tuition approach, I tend to work together with students initially to develop their confidence in planning and writing. I always provide clear and structured success criteria, before students proceed to writing independently. I will always mark students' work for both literacy and the success criteria outlined, providing targeted and helpful feedback to ensure progression in English. I am dedicated to boosting students' confidence in English Language and/or Literature, building good relationships and ultimately, giving students the skills they need to achieve.
I specialise in tutoring Key Stage 3 and GCSE students, offering friendly, structured and engaging lessons tailored to each learner’s needs. Whether your child is preparing for exams, needs help with essay writing, or wants to improve their confidence in English, I’m here to support their progress every step of the way.
I am currently taking bookings for this academic year (Spring 2025 onwards) and I am available to tutor during the school holidays, if required.
