I live in Scotland and I am currently working at our local secondary school. I plan to take tutoring jobs, online from October 2025. I am an 'outdoorsy' person but also love film and reading.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught English, mainly in state schools but also in a private school, for nearly twenty five years. I have prepared schemes of work, marked for the AQA and SQA exam boards at GCSE and Higher levels. I have also taught Media Studies, been a form tutor and assisted with UCAS applications.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is to be clear about the objective of any lesson and enable pupils to see the value in what they are doing. It is important to establish what aspects of English pupils find challenging and where their strengths lie; this enables my lessons to be adapted or to evolve to suit personal needs. I always choose texts that are engaging, varied and accessible. Encouraging more independent learning through feedback is the aim.
