Personal Description:

I am a former secondary education teacher and university lecturer from America now living here in Ireland! In addition to lecturing and teaching, I am a published journalist and writer. I am passionate about all things books, creative writing, literary criticism, music, history and believe that dedication carries over to my teaching style.

I am a recipient of the ETHOS Cup for Secondary Academic Instruction, the Expository Writing Teaching Award, a Jerome Johanning Graduate Teaching nominee, and have received several international research grants and fellowships for academic excellence.

In addition to my secondary and university teaching experience, I have also worked as an Adult Learner instructor, leading both English as a Second Language and Continuing Education Courses.

Tutoring Experience:

I have almost a decades worth of professional teaching and tutoring experience including 2 years as a lead secondary English teacher, 5 years as a university lecturer leading courses in composition, expository writing, creative writing, and literature and poetry, and another 2 years working as an academic counselor and student-athlete mentor to help students keep up with the rigors of their coursework.

Approach to Grinds:

My approach to learning is focused around learning the needs of the students, gauging comprehension levels, and developing an individualized strategy towards helping the student reach the goals that we have identified and set together. I'm a big advocate of listening and understanding what each student requires of me, putting learning into practice, and acknowledging that learning sometimes involves embracing failure in order to achieve the results and scores desired. The goals may develop as we learn, but the target—your ultimate success—remains the same.
